IVF treatment process
The IVF treatment journey is a carefully planned medical process that is designed to improve the chances of an effective & safe pregnancy. In a single IVF cycle, Dr. Mona’s team stimulates the ovaries, retrieves mature eggs, fertilises them in a controlled lab setting & then transfers the healthy embryos to the uterus at the right time.

Initial consultation
The first consultation lasts for around 30-45 minutes, where your medical history, fertility reports & previous treatments are reviewed. Additionally, we recommend hormone tests, scans & semen analysis to assess fertility. Based on the findings, a personalised IVF plan & success expectations are discussed.
Ovarian stimulation
It is an 8-12-day process where fertility medications are used to help produce 8-15 mature eggs in a cycle. Blood tests & ultrasound are done to track the egg's growth. Based on the findings, medication dosage is planned according to the response & risk of overstimulation.
Egg retrieval
Egg retrieval is a 15-20 minutes process that is done under general anesthesia. The mature eggs are collected using ultrasound guidance through the vaginal wall. Most patients usually go home within 2-3 hours with an expected mild discomfort that lasts for 48 hours.
Sperm collection
Sperm is usually collected within 1 hour, on the same day as egg retrieval. The sperm is then taken to the lab to examine the quantity of motile and healthy sperms.
Fertilisation
Fertilisation is within 16-18 hours of egg retrieval. After this, the eggs are mixed with the selected sperm using the IUI or IVF procedure. While not all eggs fertilise, patients get to know whether the egg has fertilised the next day itself.
Embryo culture, screening & selection
Fertilised embryos are cultured in the lab for 3-5 days, where growth & cell division are closely monitored. We also perform genetic screening at this stage. The healthiest embryo is selected based on development stage, quality & implantation potential.
Embryo transfer
Embryo transfer is a simple, no-anesthesia-required, painless process that lasts for up to 10 minutes. Usually, one high-quality embryo is transferred to reduce the risk of multiple pregnancy. The patients are advised to rest for a brief period, after which they can resume their activities the same day.
Pregnancy
A blood test is done 12-14 days after the embryo is transferred to check whether the hormone levels have helped with implantation.
